Our Story

RetroStay was founded in 2005 by Alexandra and Michael Bennett, a husband-and-wife team with a shared passion for travel and hospitality. After experiencing frustration with the impersonal nature of hotel bookings during their own travels, they envisioned a service that would combine the luxury and reliability of premium hotels with the personalized touch of a dedicated concierge.

Beginning with just 15 partnered properties in three European destinations, RetroStay quickly gained a reputation for exceptional service and curated experiences. By 2010, we had expanded to over 100 properties across 15 countries, establishing ourselves as pioneers in the premium hotel rental market.

The 2010s marked a period of significant growth, as we embraced digital transformation while maintaining our commitment to personalized service. We launched our award-winning booking platform in 2013, combining cutting-edge technology with human expertise to create seamless travel experiences for our clients.

Today, RetroStay connects travelers with over 500 carefully selected hotels across 50 countries, serving more than 100,000 clients annually. While we've grown considerably, our founding principles remain unchanged: to provide exceptional accommodations with personalized service that makes every stay memorable.

Before co-founding the company in 2005, she managed several five-star hotels across Europe and Asia. Alexandra oversees the company's strategic direction and maintains relationships with our most prestigious hotel partners. Her vision for personalized, high-touch service has shaped RetroStay's distinctive approach to hotel rentals.

Michael Bennett

COO & Co-Founder

Michael's expertise in technology and operations has been instrumental in RetroStay's growth from a boutique agency to an industry leader. With previous experience as a technology consultant for major hospitality brands, he leads our operational and technological initiatives. Michael pioneered our proprietary booking platform that seamlessly combines automation with human expertise. His commitment to continuous improvement ensures our services remain at the cutting edge of the industry.

Olivia Richardson

Chief Experience Officer

Olivia joined RetroStay in 2012 after a distinguished career in luxury travel journalism and concierge services. As our Chief Experience Officer, she leads our team of destination specialists and oversees the curation of our hotel portfolio. Olivia's exceptional eye for detail and understanding of contemporary luxury trends have been key in maintaining our high standards. She personally vets many of our new hotel partners and develops our signature experiences in each destination.

James Nakamura

Chief Technology Officer

James brings over 15 years of experience in technology and digital transformation to RetroStay, having joined us in 2015 after leadership roles at major travel technology companies. He oversees our digital platforms, data analytics, and technology partnerships. James has been instrumental in developing our AI-enhanced recommendation system and mobile experience.
